Soar!
(a poem for the L.A. Marathon)
You cannot learn to fly until you leap
So many miles of space are yours to find
Enjoy the moments of your transient being
The unique luxury of human kind
Let soar with hawk-eyed calm and firm resolve
Explore the ether just beyond the cloud
Where mystery and spirit may combine
To reveal what fear and doubt may shroud
The heart infused with Springtime's vibrant heat
Beats like the raptor's wings that pave a way
Through golden skies that welcome those who spend
Each waking hour to celebrate today!
The flight path that you take should fortify
The way you navigate each rare terrain
The hours, weeks, and months that offer life
Are blessed by every season’s heat and rain
Arise, lace up, prepare for your next launch
Embrace the elements that are at hand
The time to lift is now, so grab the wind
And tread the course that bonds you to your land!
O Marathoner, hearty, brave and true
Stretch your horizons and you will break through!
