The Poet on a Run

The Day After the Summer Solstice

There must be a reason
For the change of the season
Why did I ignore
The life out my door
Got stuck in my room
And forgot to explore

Transition to summer
I missed!  What a bummer!
No dance by the fire
By which to aspire
To honor our Mother
In pagan attire

On Solstice, be merry
In forest or prairie
Stay out through the eve
To wild flowers cleave
With mead make a toast
In fairies believe!

It's time to appraise
The hot summer days
So I'll play along
And whistle a song
I'll run like the wind
My health to prolong

My clock hits 5:40
I start to feel sporty
And set out for fun
On a morning park run
When the moon bids farewell
To bright Father Sun

All nature is calling
The creatures, enthralling
So I'll put on my hat
And explore like a cat
To remember I'm living
And breathing...that's that!

When I'm much stronger
I'll  tarry no longer
And take a brave stance
With a mask and my lance
To celebrate Autumn
At an equinox dance!
