The Night Before Halloween
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray that I won`t hear a peep
From wolves down on MacDougal St.
That end the peace and kill the sheep
And when I wake, I hope I find
That I have not lost my mind
From anxiousness and lack of R.E.M.
What if, tomorrow, love I find?
If I don't sleep, I’ll overheat!
Which makes it hard the day to meet
O guardian angel, keep me cool
So, I might with this maid entreat
With looks, my zeal, and poetry
I want to set my spirit free
I don’t just want to stumble through
For, it’s Halloween, you see…
For Autumn, I am dressed and made
The Fairy Poet is displayed
With foliage upon my coat
I’m ready for the big Parade
This is the special holy day
When pagans come outside to play
With sprites a’ plenty we commune
As we should do anyway
Tonight I’ll make a sacrifice
Some harvest ales might be nice
I’ll pour some out for those gone by
I hope the gesture will suffice
For tomorrow I am keen
To join the fun on Halloween
What bacchanal could compare
To the Greenwich Village scene!?
