The Session of the Gnomes
If you could hear the orchestra
Of gnomes we heard one day
You’d praise their fine precision
And the passion of their play!
Each graceful note caressed the air
Each melody rang true
Some compositions, most antique
Some innovative, new
In harmonious concordance
The drums, the flutes, the strings
Graced the rhythms of the season
Whence imagination springs
Joy and love and pride ensued
Rare music filled the land
The animals and birds sat still
While they listened to the band
The unique and hearty spirits
Played beyond both time and space
Transcending more dimensions
Customary to this place
The arpeggios were stunning
The cadenzas touched the heart
The choruses, miraculous
Pierced our hungry souls with art
The performance was a blessing
“Play on!” we do implore!
Such welcome, gifted teachers
Deserve a strong encore!
The wee musicians persevered
Beneath the Moon’s bright beams
The concert now reverberates
In our waking-life and dreams.
