Triptych for a Muse
Spring Fledgling Eyes open wide, she watches the array Of energy, creation, and resolve As she learns to navigate the maze And carve a path in order to evolve Into a world, mysterious and rich She'll find a unique strategy to find The singular, ingenious, and blessed And climb the peak to which she is inclined You need not ever doubt your rising star So, take a daring, unexpected turn Your nature is exquisite and unique Your better instincts care for what you yearn Sweet Alpine angel, do not lose your way May Perchta’s brightest light reside in you Let your uncommon spirit be your guide Stay grounded, focused, passionate, and true Like fair Demeter, cultivate and grow A sustenance to proudly assert will The universe is open to your flight So, spread your wings and soar with greatest skill The neon city challenged you to dream Become the woman that you’re bound to be Let us be dazzled by your stunning gaze O, gracious muse with style and esprit! *** Theo J. van Joolen©2014 |
Spring Fling Spring just wants to push love in my face Never mind my stumbling lack of keeping pace The season does not care that I am not prepared This poet’s heart and soul are never spared Why must Aphrodite recruit me so clearly While the leash of Himeros binds me so severely Algean maidens, please take your anguish far from me Neither of you, the mistress with whom I want to be How long must I wait by the Helicon Spring Where Mnemosyne's daughters cruelly taunt and sing Do I praise too much, when I earnestly beseech Is there no wisdom, spirit, power in my speech? Dionysus, Cupid, spare me from your tempting dose Your wines and potions, poison if Eros is not close Let me dance and twirl with Terpsichore this season This light and warmth must have purpose and reason! This is the play for which I am ready made Unless, perhaps, I am unworthy of my trade? *** Theo J. van Joolen©2014 |
Alpine Angel
A rare visitation, I stand on uncommon ground
Tranquilized, unable to approach, or slowly turn
My mettle, my capable air, my strength betrays
Yet, I'm thankful that my warrior’s heart can burn
What Alpine Angel alights upon this street?!
A lunar brilliance gilded by April’s moon
Piercing my slightly stable, barely managed reality
Causing me to pause, stumble, swerve, and swoon
A cruel mirage in my dysphoric urban desolation?
Flora’s envoy, unforeseen vision, effervescent hope?
Let my poet’s pen release its soothing salve!
These confused sensations lie beyond the common scope!
What silken creature’s beauty possibly so gleams ?!
Tarry for this blessed while… if only in my dreams.
