The Fairy Poet and the Marathon
I am registered to run the L.A. Marathon on 15 March 2015. My basic training schedule is 3 RUNS per week, 2 BIKES per week, and 1 HIKE per week. I may replace some runs with ELLIPTICALS during the severest of weather conditions. I will be as Plant-Based as possible from November 1st through March 15th. I am reading No Meat Athlete by Matt Frazier for inspiration and tips. I will train without music (except on elliptical machines because gyms are just too boring). I want to be as time efficient in my training as possible because I will be doing theater through Dec. 17th, and I am seriously on the job-hunt (I accepted a new job on 12/08/14. I start on 12/15/14). Below is my exercise log, so you may track, if you wish, my activities, successes and failures. My goal is to run the Average Joe Marathon below four hours...3:45 would be nice!

This is the oldest poem on fairypoet.com. I wrote this while I was training for half marathons, and eventually the Hartford Marathon 2009.
Road Slayer: A Runner's Poem
I’m not a Viking yet, I think
The Norse have come and gone
But I may find a distant link
Like a king does to a pawn
The road I tread is hot and hard
A journey that I seek
A warrior’s song told by the bard
That ebbs before the peak
My weapons are not axe, nor sword
It’s rubber that I need
I give no oath to King, nor Lord
I ride on shoes, not steed
For maidens, Odin, and mighty Thor
I strike the pavement true
For peace, and strength and modern Lore
I die, and then renew
I shed my blood on blackroad-tar
I sweat for Freya’s Love
I slay for pain and trudge so far
For, Valhalla is above!!
If I may suffer from mile to mile
And finish brave and strong
My face will beam triumphant smile
And you may sing my song
If this, to you, is frivolous fare
And quite beyond the pale
Then sit with me you may not dare
Nor join me in my ale!
